The inaugural International event staged at Over 40s and Over 45s

Mathern Football Club

April 27th 2008

The first ever Wales / England Vets match too place at Mathern on April 27th 2008.

Wales proved too strong, winning both the Over 45s match (4-1) and the Over 40s match (3-0). Both games were played in an excellent spirit and reflected a very high level of footballing skills. The games were well supported by a large crowd, who added to the occasion with their vocal support for all four teams.

The day went well with each team being presented to celebrity guest football stars, before Severn Tunnel Brass Band played the National Anthems.

The England sides were represented by players from over 20 clubs, drawn from all four divisions. The Welsh sides included a number of ex professional players, along with many who played extensively in the Welsh Football League.

All involved agreed that the day was an outstanding success and certainly an occasion to be repeated in the future.
